Counselor’s Corner
Is it possible that another school year has flown by?
I do wish you and your families a happy and safe summer together. We will
see you in August! Below are a few end of the year items:
Little Girls Can Be Mean Parent
Discussion
The first parent meeting to discuss the book
Little Girls Can Be Mean by Michele
Anthony took place on May 31. Those present thought it would be good to offer a
series of meetings in the fall to continue discussing sections of the book.
Please add the book to your summer
reading list! Teachers are reading it as well. Together we can increase our
understanding of dynamics and strategies to empower all of our girls to manage
social situations successfully.
Virtue of the Month
The balloon cut-outs from our Virtue of the Month wall have
been taken down and distributed to students. Congratulations to all recipients.
The Character Education Committee will continue this program next year.
Mix It Up at Lunch
On May 16, lunch time for students in grades 3-5 and grades
6-8 was just as lively as ever. What was different was the mix of students who
were discussing summer plans, favorite memories of the year, hobbies and
interests, and thoughts about next year. Some
of the comments heard were: “It was fun to sit with kids from other grades” and
“I learned the names of students I’ve never talked to before.”
Mix It up at Lunch has been an annual event in schools
across the nation promoted by the organization
Teaching Tolerance. We plan to host
these lunches again next year as a community building effort.
Parenting Resources
Please see the Thursday folder for information from JSSA on
helping children through school transitions.
The Parent Encouragement Program is offering an array of

Happy
Summer!
