St. Elizabeth CYO Basketball
Registration/ Team Formation
5-8th Grade Boys and
Girls
YOU MUST HAVE THE REGISTRATION
CYO programs are for all
parishioners and students at St. Elizabeth Parish and School
REGISTRATION –
****IMPORTANT-If you did not do this
last year****
The ADW CYO
will
no longer be accepting paper player registration or paper roster forms.
There
will be a new registration system that the CYO will use. Each Parent/Guardian
will register your child once for all sports for the year. Go to the link below
and click on players under online registration.
http://www.washcyo.com/INDEX%20PAGE.LINKS/ON-LINE%20REGISTRATION/0000.MASTER%20L%20PAGE.online%20registration.htm
You will be prompted through out the process but below is
an outline of the steps.
This must be
completed by a Parent or Guardian; Attach Payment of $100 by Check payable to
St. Elizabeth CYO and turned in to the St. E’s CYO box at the front of the
school NO LATER THAN OCT. 19th.
It is imperative
that we know the number of participants for each league for two reasons:
1)
Allows us to
recruit the appropriate number of Coaches needed.
2)
Allows us to
meet our deadline to pay for and submit the number of
If you miss the
deadline we will try to accommodate your child but there is no guarantee we can
place them on a team. We have to make decisions on numbers of teams per league
and ensure we have the appropriate coaches.
Decisions will be based on number of participants in each league to form
proper team sizes.
The ADW CYO has set up Grade
level leagues with two divisions to accommodate the skill levels and objectives
a parent and participant would desire from our program.
Everyone who registers by the
deadline, OCT. 19th, and attends the appropriate tryout/evaluation
will be placed on a team. There are NO “cuts”.
The breakdown of both girls and
boys leagues are as follows:
Varsity Mid Atlantic (V-MA) 7 & 8th
Graders; JV Tournament (JV-T)
5&6th Graders (these teams are referred to as “select”)
These are the most competitive
leagues; players will be selected based on skill level and position to form the
most competitive team. Minimum playing time is defined by ADW CYO as follows:
Although these are the minimum required by the ADW CYO
league rules, the St. Elizabeth CYO encourages increased playing time over these
minimums whenever possible.
Varsity Tournament (V-T) 7 & 8th
Graders; JV Non Tournament (JV-NT) 5 & 6th Graders (these teams are
referred to as “Blue/White”)
These leagues, while competitive, will emphasize skill
development, fundamental strategy and team concepts. Through the process,
players will be evaluated based on skill level and position. The Coaches, under
the guidance of the CYO Board or Commissioner will conduct a draft to evenly
divide the players by skill level, Grade and position.
We typically have enough players for (3) to (4) teams
per League. If there are (4) St.E’s teams entered in a league, we are required
by ADW CYO rules to have (2) “select”
teams, A & B; and (2) teams, “Blue/White”,
divided evenly by skill, position and grade.
Please discuss this process with your child to determine
whether they want to be considered for the “select” teams.
If you know upfront you do not want to
be considered for the “select” teams, please notify a CYO Board member at the 1st
session.
IT IS IMPORTANT
THAT YOUR CHILD ATTENDS THE FIRST SESSION TO GUARANTEE PLACEMENT ON A SELECT
TEAM. If there are any issues please contact Dan Howley 301.399.1928
or Mike Carey
301.538.0184.
PLAYER EVALUATION
SESSION:
If available, we
will be using an outside group, One on One Basketball, to conduct the player
evaluation sessions. The appropriate coaches and CYO Board Members will also be
present in the gym.
We ask that you have your child dropped off in the main
parking lot 15 minutes prior to the
start of your session. We ask that parents do not come into the Gym during
the evaluation, however, the all purpose room will be made available.
We will provide jerseys and assign numbers for
identification,
please no outside basketballs.
There will most likely be two sessions for all players held
at St. Elizabeth gym during the last two weeks of October. Date/times are still
being determined to try and eliminate as many conflicts as possible with current
fall sports.
The first session will be for all
participants. You will be notified of appropriate
follow up session.
Depending on numbers in a specific group and decisions by
the respective coaches there can be a follow up session of invited participants
to finalize the “select” teams.
Once the select teams have been finalized there will be a 2nd
session for the remaining participants with their respective coaches to form the
“Blue/White” teams. Shortly following that session the coaches will call their
respective team participants.
