Dear Parents and Guardians,

The 2011- 2012 school year is off to a great start!  The children are enthusiastic about school and our monthly outreach projects. Our outreach program has helped thousands of our needy brothers and sisters as well as hundreds of animals in our local community. The generosity we have received from our school families has been overwhelming. We look ahead with great promise as we labor to bring the healing presence of Christ to those who are less fortunate.

This year our goal is to have the children take a more active role in selecting, advertising, and donating to each project. It is important that the children understand what they are giving and why.  Every project will be discussed in school and the children will have opportunities to ask questions and express ideas.

Below is a list of grade levels and the month they are assigned this year to spearhead the particular month’s outreach project. There is also a description of expectations for students and parent/guardian volunteers.

September                  Second Grade

October                       Sixth Grade

November                   Third Grade

December                   Kindergarten and Preschool

January                      Fourth Grade

February                    Eighth Grade

March                        Fifth Grade

April                          First Grade

May                          Seventh Grade

Parent/Guardian Volunteers: You communicate with the homeroom teacher regarding needs for the project. Such needs could include: assisting with an in-school activity, organizing and delivering donations, contacting parents/guardians within your homeroom, etc.  It will vary with each project.

Students:   The idea is that this year, more so then ever, is for the children to earn money to purchase or donate to the monthly outreach projects. It is not imperative, obviously, but strongly suggested. If every child brought in one item or one dollar that he or she earned, that would amount to a very generous donation.

I am excited for the children to be more involved this year.  The children are eager to help and have many ideas, and it will be great to see the program continue to benefit those who are less fortunate. Please watch for flyers posted in the Thursday folder. If you have any questions please fee free to contact me at bhedges@stelizabethschoolmd.org.

Sincerely,
