Under the guidance of Father Frederick Bloom, first pastor of St. Elizabeth Parish, St. Elizabeth School opened its doors for the first time in September 1966. Initially, the school comprised of single classrooms from first through eighth grade but quickly expanded to meet the demands of the rapidly growing Rockville and DC Metro area population. Today, St. Elizabeth Catholic School offers both 3- and 4-year-old preschool programs, a full-day Junior Kindergarten program, 3 Kindergarten classes, and 2 classes each of 1st through 8th Grades. Over the years, the school has proudly graduated over 2,000 students, all of whom have benefited from our rigorous academic and strong faith-based program.
The strength of St. Elizabeth Catholic school lies in the tradition of excellence that our administration, faculty, and staff strive to uphold. Our students graduate and are well prepared for the academic rigor and challenges of high school.Today, students thrive in a nurturing community on a campus that has expanded to meet its growing student body’s ever-changing needs. Below is a list of facilities, improvements, and additions that have consistently supported and enhanced the school’s mission:
- 1987: First Floor Wing addition that provided new learning spaces for students and allowed St. Elizabeth School to grow.
- 1989: Full court gymnasium completed.
- 2000: Middle School Wing with additional classrooms and office space completed. Newly outfitted Science and Computer labs with 21st century technology, Library, and Art Room found permanent homes.
- 2000: Addition of elevator to modernize accessibility
- 2009: First Promethean Boards installed to aid in innovative instruction
- 2010: Portable iPad carts available for class lessons
- 2013: Resource Center formalized with staff additions and space renovation
- 2015: New cafeteria dining tables and chairs
- 2016: Theater Program’s staging lights upgraded to enhance Spring and Fall plays/musicals
- 2016: Installation of Campus Security Cameras
- 2017: Two new full-sized soccer goals were added to the fields to complement the playground areas
- 2017: Full kitchen renovation to enhance area for daily Hot Lunch service to students
- 2018: Additional safety features installed in school classrooms; flexible seating added for student learning; additional Chromebook cart purchased for middle school
- 2019: Perimeter fencing added to playground area; stage refurbishment completed
- 2020: One-to-one Chromebook technology and updated Fios system
- 2022: Updated AV system for stage and school theater productions
- 2023: Newly renovated back field and playground area
